Breaking Cycles of Gender-Based Harm and Inequality

At SISU, we envision a world where gender no longer dictates a person’s safety, opportunities, or value—where all women and girls can live free from harm and with dignity. Our mission is to dismantle the systemic barriers that perpetuate gender-based violence and inequality by reforming institutions, promoting restorative justice, and co-creating long-term, sustainable solutions alongside communities.

We believe that real change comes from addressing the root causes of harm and holding systems accountable for their failures. By empowering and amplifying the voices of women and girls, we work together to reshape the institutions that have upheld gender-based harm for too long.

Through our work, we create pathways to accountability, healing, and true equality, ensuring that all women and girls have the opportunity to thrive in a world that values their rights, resilience, and dignity. We’re not just envisioning a better future—we’re actively building it.

Empowering, Validating, and Creating Lasting Change

Amplifying Expertise. Transforming the Sector

Real, lasting change starts by restoring trust and rebuilding personal agency for those most impacted by systemic harm. SISU is dedicated to creating environments where women and girls are fully resourced and empowered, with their lived experiences guiding the solutions and reforms needed for a safer, more equitable future.

Our unique SISU approach combines academic research and community-driven programmes that focus on long-term empowerment, helping women and girls build self-worth, security, and resilience. By providing skills, support, and opportunities, we ensure they have what they need to thrive beyond adversity.

Women and girls are not just participants—they are leaders of change. By embedding their voices into everything we do, we drive innovation and build systems that reflect their needs, creating meaningful, sustainable change for future generations.

Our Approach

Group 427.png

We understand that addressing gender-based harm and inequality requires more than reacting to individual cases—it demands a fundamental shift in how society supports and empowers those affected. SISU’s approach is rooted in innovation, driving change across multiple levels:

  • Systemic Reform: We advocate for comprehensive reform across society, challenging entrenched patriarchal norms, institutional biases, and policies that perpetuate harm and inequality.

  • Empowering Care Systems: SISU works to transform fragmented, disempowering care systems into those that validate experiences, restore trust and agency, and provide long-term, sustainable support that meets the real needs of women and girls.

  • Cultural Change: Through academic research, education, and public engagement, we aim to shift harmful narratives and promote a culture of empathy, accountability, and justice.

  • Direct Support for Women and Girls: We work closely with women and girls, providing validation, education, and practical support to help them rebuild their lives. Through skills training, emotional support, and opportunities for growth, we empower them to reclaim their agency, resilience, and ability to thrive beyond adversity

Together, these initiatives create a cohesive framework for addressing both the structural and personal impacts of gender-based violence, inequality, and injustice, ultimately ensuring lasting safety, security, and empowerment for women and girls.
